Optimat report looks at circular economy in the automotive sector
December 23, 2013

The Scottish Government has just published the Optimat report investigating the trends and opportunities in remanufacture, refurbishment, recycling and reuse of vehicles.

This detailed report looks at the medium and long term implications of a move towards a circular economy for the vehicle sector. It also presents the results of a survey of over 60 End of Life Vehicle dismantlers and shredders in Scotland and the short term challenges and opportunities presented by 2015 ELV recycling and recovery targets. A comparison with practices and technologies used in the ELV sector throughout Europe and beyond is presented, including a review of rare earth and valuable metal reprocessing technologies. The report also includes the results of a social cost benefit analysis of different short term opportunities for the ELV sector in Scotland.

The report can be found here.
